These Photos Show How Weight Loss Drastically Transforms Your Hands

After her mother's sudden death in 2013, Katie Lynne, a registered nurse living in Florida, decided she wanted to live — without the excess weight that had plagued her since childhood. In the year that followed her mother's accident, Katie's weight spiraled out of control, topping out at 283 pounds.

Encumbered by the fear that she'd end up like some her bariatric patients if she didn't make a major change, Katie decided to undergo gastric sleeve surgery. Although the procedure led to a bout of pneumonia and temporary kidney failure, Katie recovered and lost 130 pounds within a year, in part thanks to reducing her food portions and amping up her exercise.

Drowning in excess skin, Katie completed her transformation with skin-removal surgery and a breast lift in January. "It wasn't until the day after my plastic surgery that I realized how much I had been missing out on in life," she wrote in a post on Instagram, where she's documented her entire journey.

A year and a half later, Katie is still getting to know her new body. For instance, her belly is gone and her face looks pretty different:

But one change Katie didn't expect was in her hands, which barely resemble the ones Katie remembers from her heaviest days:

"I was driving home today and looked down to realize I have skinny fingers," she wrote in her post. "My hands look totally different now!" Still, Katie's transformation isn't purely aesthetic. (She didn't risk her health for skinny fingers, that's for sure.)

Without excess weight holding her back, Katie's attitude has never been better, and that's a transformation you can only see in a smile.
